Welcome to the Foundational Health podcast. My name is Dr. Kevin Schultz, and I’ve been in practice for 24 years as a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic and Nutritional Counselor.

First off, I want to thank you for discovering this podcast and taking the journey with me to improve your health. 

Whether you’ve been a longtime follower of mine or are just now learning about me and my Foundational Health mission, I’d like to introduce myself and let you know what this podcast is all about.

Get to Know Dr. Kevin Schultz

As I said, I have been in active practice as a Doctor of Chiropractic for over 20 years right here in my home state of WI. Over this time, my mission has been to not only help my patients with their spinal health, but also improve their overall health through nutritional and lifestyle changes.

I’ve led hundreds of workshops & seminars throughout my career and I have had the honor to treat and coach thousands of patients from small children, to parents who simply want to become better, healthier parents and learn how to raise a healthy family, to elderly patients that want to avoid canes, walkers, wheelchairs and being placed in a nursing home.

I’ve even worked with collegiate and olympic athletes that want to perform at the highest level possible by avoiding injuries and improving their health through chiropractic care, nutrition and proper supplementation.

The more people I helped, the more I learned, and the more my passion for health grew. I was able to experience first hand—with my patients as well as personally with my own body—how building a foundation for sustainable health can help you look better, feel better, and heal better. I made health my hobby, and wanted to share my research, knowledge, and experience to help even more people to do the same.

This is where my vision for Foundational Health began.

The Mission of Foundational Health and the 5 Core Principles

The goal behind the Foundational Health brand is to provide the education and inspiration necessary to help those that are looking for sustainable health over a lifetime.

It’s easy to get lost along the way on your health journey. There is so much conflicting information out there that it’s hard to even know where to get started.

This is why my goal is to simplify the health message down to its foundation, with 5 core pillars: Nutrition, Motion, Hydration, Recovery, and Intention.

Pillar #1: Nutrition

Pillar # 1 - Nutrition focuses on the food and supplements you put in your body to fuel its growth, development and healing. Food is fuel, but more importantly, food is information.  The food & supplements you choose to put in your body provide your cells with the information to either develop disease or build health.

Pillar #2: Motion

Pillar #2 - Motion highlights the essential role that movement like exercise, stretching & walking play on your overall health. Motion is life. Your body requires and craves motion in order to function, heal, and build a healthy foundation.

Pillar #3: Hydration

Pillar #3 - Hydration recognizes the importance of staying properly hydrated to allow your body to function as intended.  Water makes up around 60% of your overall body weight and 80% of your brain. Not drinking enough water leads to chronic dehydration down to the cellular level throughout your body & brain, which increases the likelihood of sickness and disease. Proper hydration through clean filtered water is foundational for allowing your body to function the way it was intended.

Pillar #4: Recovery

Pillar #4 - Recovery focuses on improving sleep, proper breathing, sunlight and other simple healing modalities so your body can fight disease, recover, and heal.  Rest & Recovery is critical.  The deep stages of sleep is where your body does the majority of healing and helps build your healthy foundation for life. 

Pillar #5: Intention

And finally, Intention is what ties it all together. The “Big Why” behind your commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Proverbs 29:18  tells us, “Without vision, people perish” It doesn’t get more important than pillar #5. With a clear picture of what your future health looks like, the mindset & discipline to improve your nutrition, motion, hydration and recovery all become easier and I can promise, you WILL dramatically improve your odds of achieving your health goals.

So now let’s talk about what you’re here for: the podcast. The Foundational Health podcast is one way that I hope to carry out the mission of providing health-building education and inspiration.

I LOVE reading research papers, books, newsletters, websites, listening to audiobooks & podcasts, watching social media and YouTube videos that all dive deep into the science, but I realize that is not something the average person loves to do.  My goal with this podcast is to take all of the in-depth science and simplify it for you, my listeners.

In each short and to the point episode, I’ll be covering a topic relating to one of the 5 pillars of foundational health, and giving insights and tools that you can apply right away in your daily life. The goal is to build a library of straightforward, actionable content that you can use as your guide along your health journey.
